John Bradbury

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I advise of the passing of John Bradbury on 31 December.

John dedicated over 60 years to Petone Football Club, joining as a seven year old and became involved in club administration from the age of 16.

He had a long and distinguished playing career for Petone making over 170 first team league appearances.

John was elected a life member of Petone FC in 1975 and was highly respected for his leadership and governance.

He received a number of awards for his service to football including the Boyden Silver Badge by the Wellington Football Association in 1982, a Life Time Achievement Award at the 2014 Wellington Sports Awards and was also inducted into the Wellington Football Hall of Fame in the same year.

Despite standing down as club president in 2005, John remained actively involved in the club and spent a number of years researching and documenting our history. He also continued in an advisory role and was always available to provide ‘wise counsel’.

I know you will join with me in passing on our love and sincere condolences to John's family in the loss of a great friend and a true gentleman.

A memorial service for John will be held on Tuesday 16 January at Old St Paul’s Cathedral, Wellington at 4.30pm.
