2014 Winter Season: Week 1

Unfortunately it wasn't a particularly good start to the senior season for teams in blue. Out of 14 men's games and 2 women's games we have only managed 5 wins and 2 draws so far.

Central League

It wasn't all bad news with our first team, Grant Plumbing Petone, winning 3-2 against Tawa to register their first points of the season. It wasn't a pretty game with Tawa scoring early and leading at half time.

When the boys came out in the second half we threatened often and had a goal disallowed before finally levelling the match through a solid goal to Grant Robson. Moments later Tawa went ahead again only for Grant to hit back almost immediately getting us back to even keel with another good strike. Some outstanding saves from Tawa's keeper kept things as they were for the time being.Cue the return of George Milne to Petone, a strong battling run in from the right of the penalty box and a low shot into the far side of the net making it 3-2. A few nervous moments at the back as Tawa pushed for an equaliser but thanks to Dan Clarke it wasn't to be.

Women's 1

After some luck with the draw, good recruitment, a decent preseason the Petone Pure are set to fight it out in Women's 1 again this year. Seeking a strong year and promotion into Women's Premier for next season the Pure needed a strong start and that's exactly what they got.

Going a goal down, perhaps against the run of play, the ladies regrouped and hit back with 3 goals in quick succession. Sarah Duffin getting one and Bianca Mueller picked up 2 before taking a knock which ended her game. It was a more even affair in the second half but you couldn't say it was boring, the Pure forcing some good saves from Porirua's stand in keeper before Sarah slotted the ball into the back of the net near the end.

Hutt Valley 9th Grade Yellow saw 2 Petone teams, the Settlers and the Wanderers pitted against each other. Settler picking up a 5-2 win there before going on to beat Lower Hutt City 6-1. The Wanderers picking up a 3-3 draw with Naenae in their other game.

In 12th Grade Travel League East, the Settlers cruised to a 13-0 win over Stop Out Rufer. What an outstanding result!

In 13th Grade Travel League East, the Settlers run out 8-2 winners over Lower Hutt City. Another brilliant result!

Girls Only

In Girls Only 7th & 8th Grade Yellow, Petone picked up 3 wins from 4 games beating Brooklyn, Karori, and Tawa.

We have 2 teams competing in the Girls Only 10th Grade divisions this season. In the Yellow division, Petone 1 picked up a 2-1 win over Western Suburbs before losing narrowly to Karori. In the Black division, Petone 2 beat Onslow Kenyas 4-0 and Onlsow Chartwells 5-0. Go Girls!

Girls Only 12th Grade Yellow saw Petone run out 4-0 winners against Brooklyn and 2-0 winners against Karori.

We have photos from both our Central League and Women's 1 games loaded in the Photo Gallery. Head on over and have a look.

Don't forget that the Mighty Masters open their season tonight against Stokes Valley on Petone Memorial No 1 at 6:30pm. If you get a chance, head on down and give them your support.
