Petone Girl's U17s Summary 2014

Petone Women's Football continues to soar as a new Petone U17s Girl's team has been established. The team have just wrapped up competing in the Capital Football U17s Girl's summer competition. The side was coached by Sam Morrissey and Paul Martin with Nadine Bowen as the team Manager.

The idea behind creating an U17s Girl's team here at Petone is to give this age group the opportunity to develop before entering senior womens football. The message was made clear that this team was about the individual's development above anything else. We are extremely proud of the progress this group of girls has made over a short period and will be looking to promote the older ones into senior football next season.

The team did exceptionally well throughout the short 8 week summer league for a group who only met each other a few weeks before the season started and most came from different schools and even clubs. As a lot of the girls were involved with other summer sports we struggled to field the same team twice and we never had a dedicated Goalkeeper. This made it challenging at times from a coaching perspective but this is the nature of football and all the girls played their part no matter what position they played in.

The results the girls produced were as follows:

Petone 3 v 0 Stop Out

Petone 10 v 0 Miramar

Petone 0 v 1 Upper Hutt

Petone 0 v 1 Seatoun

Petone 6 v 1 Wairarapa

Petone 1 v 0 Karori

Petone 1 v 3 Nokouts

Petone 4 v 0 Wellington Girls Juniors

Wins: 4    Draws: 0    Losses: 4    Goals For: 22    Goals Against: 9    Pts: 12
